Accountants as a part-time practice inspector which has

Accountants and the Forestry Industry
In 1997, the Province of Ontario shifted the
responsibility of forest management to the forest
industry.
The creation of companies holding Sustainable Forest
Licenses (SFL) resulted in new business issues
facing the industry. Burghout
Viola Chartered Accountants
has been involved with the first SFL companies
created and assisted with the creation of new
accounting and reporting for these companies.
Private land owners have been exempted from the
forest management activities in prior years. In
1998, the change in municipal taxes resulted in a
75% reduction in the tax rates applicable to the
land if the land owner had a Forest Management Plan.
These new requirements have resulted in new business
issues facing the land owner, similar to the SFL
companies.
